|A QUICK LOOK BACK|
Solomon is now standing on his own two feet, making the most of God’s gift of wisdom. Shortly after we read about Solomon’s wedding, we also read the strange and beautiful book of “Song of Solomon”. Depending on your Bible, it may also be known as the “Song of Songs”.
THE ROAD AHEAD
When given one wish by God, Solomon chose wisdom. He knew that ruling as king was no easy task and he was in way over his head. We have a choice to make when we are in over our head. We can try to bluff our way through, hoping no one will notice that we don’t know what we’re doing. Or we can ask for help. Solomon decided to ask for help. Even before God grants him wisdom, this seems to be a very wise choice. “Wisdom” is different from intelligence. It is not about how well you would do on “Jeopardy!” It has less to do with knowing the right answers and more to do with making the right choices. This week we sit at the Teacher’s feet as Solomon gives us a crash course on wisdom in the very practical book “Proverbs.” Proverbs is not a story, but a collection of wise sayings and common sense observations. In it, we are reminded of the priorities and values that holiness demands. We are free to choose our own road in this life. “Proverbs” guides us to choose well.
Keep reading! I’ll see you in the Bible!
